GreenWave Aquatics began with a simple question at our local fish shop: “Why are true peppermint shrimp so hard to find?”

We were told that the genuine species scientifically proven to control Aiptasia — had become scarce in the UK. Most shrimp available were wild-caught, mislabelled, or simply unreliable.

Digging deeper, we found the issue was global. In 2016 alone, over 2.3 million peppermint shrimp were harvested from just one stretch of coastline to supply the aquarium trade — often without regard for species accuracy or sustainability. This unsustainable demand was placing real pressure on reef ecosystems.

That realisation sparked our mission: to produce a dependable, ethical alternative. At GreenWave Aquatics, we now breed true Lysmata boggessi, raised entirely in the UK under controlled, reef-safe conditions. Our shrimp are:
